Podcast Script
Hello welcome to my podcast! For my podcast I want to talk about the difference with fruits and vegetables with and organic and not organic. There are two categories with fruits and vegetables and they are rated cleanest to the dirtiest. The categories are the dirty dozen and the clean fifteen. When short on money and wanting to make healthier options you can chose from the clean fifteen and not worry so much about being organic or not because there are less pesticides used on those products, but the dirty dozen on the other hand are rated 1-12 with the things you want to definitely purchase organic if at all possible. Things on the dirty dozen list rated from dirtiest to cleanest are nectarines, peaches, apples, celery, carrots, kale, strawberries, cherries, lettuce, imported grapes, pears. These fruits and vegetables have been tested and test over 50 % positive for pesticides and many of them are tested positive for multiple pesticides on the same fruit. The clean 15 however are very low on pesticides and you can safely choose them non organic. These options are onions, avocados, frozen sweet corn, pineapples, mango, asparagus, frozen sweet peas, kiwi, cabbage, eggplant, papaya, watermelon, broccoli, tomatoes, sweet potatoes and grapefruit. There are ways to eat healthier without spending a fortune. While consuming the least amount of pesticides as possible. Pesticides affect every part of your life and attack your cells and can affect future generations. Looking at labels but for what?
Recently I have taken interest in clean eating, not going hard core just making better buying and eating decisions for my family. I have been really bad and buying frozen foods and not caring what we have been eating. for many reasons whether time being busy or being on opposite schedules.
I started searching the internet for information and each piece of information is a rabbit hole of information each leading to something more than the last. What IS organic? What is non-GMO? What is a GMO? Why are some things organic and some aren't? Do some things matter more than others to be organic?
My head was spinning from the amount of information I had found. After talking with my husband he was just as shocked as I was. Ha, this coming from the man who has always been happy to eat a cheeseburger and large fry and not even bat and eye lash or look back. He has finally stopped fighting me on healthier food. Not making major changes as of now but small changes because we should be feeding ourselves how we want to feed out children in the future right?
